5 Ways to Use Commercial Carpet to Inspire

By 2nd August 2022 No Comments

Providing an inspirational learning environment is crucial to any classroom. An inspired student will be more focused and retain more information than one who isn’t. So how exactly do commercial carpets fit into this, and how can they be used to inspire the next generation?

Improve Mood Though Coloured Carpets

Colour psychology is the study of hues in order to predict, determine or influence behaviour in humans. It’s an area which is often thought of when decorating schools and classrooms to enhance productivity, motivate students and to encourage play or relaxation.

We can also apply the same theory to carpet colours to boost focus during learning. For example, blue can be used to promote inspiration and calm students, while green is optimistic and motivational.

The use of colour blocking on the carpet can help to create different zones for children to learn in. In younger classes, a singular ring of blue or green carpet is often used to provide a calm and focused place for children to read or listen to stories.  This is super easy to achieve using our carpet tiles, as they are trouble-free to install in a huge variety of areas.

Noise Reduction

Having an acoustically sound and quiet environment is vital for helping children learn, particularly for those with special needs or auditory problems. The Department for Education has set out clear objectives around the subject, one of which is for “all schools to provide suitable ambient levels to enable clear communication between teachers and students.”

Using carpet over a hard floor is one of the ways to do this, as it’s the only floor covering which significantly reduces noise impact and reverberation. There is also the option to add an acoustic backing to our carpet tiles to further reduce sound levels.

Carpets for Creativity

Using different patterns on carpets within classrooms can inspire more creative conversation and learning amongst pupils. They encourage children to look and think about what the patterns mean, and where they come from.

Our Inspiration collection carpet tiles  use themes from the natural world, which would be a great choice in schools to inspire children to talk about animals and wildlife.

Provide a More Comfortable Learning Environment

Providing a comfortable learning environment is so important in schools, and classroom design plays a big role in doing this. In fact, experts from the University of Salford have found that classroom design contributes to 16% of students’ learning rates.

By having a soft and comfortable carpet to learn on, students are more likely to be relaxed, open to inspiration and able to focus on the task in hand. It’s also more inviting than a hard floor, which can be cold underfoot throughout winter.

Enhance Safety in the Classroom

Having dedicated areas in a classroom may serve as an important symbol to many children, as it provides them with their own free space where they can learn and play. As a result, they may be more likely to develop feelings of security, and be encouraged to take independent play or study.

We all know that accidents are common in schools. Carpets are much better at preventing injuries from occurring, as they absorb liquids and prevent slippery, dangerous surfaces. This is another way to boost productivity levels as teachers and students can be confident in the knowledge that children can learn independently without injury. Thankfully, all our carpet tiles are designed to withstand the wear and tear of schools, as well as the occasional fall or two!
